Herds of the Fathers

I first heard about the brand, Herds of the Fathers via my friend Joey and although their collection is aimed at men, I would definitely rock a piece!
Created by Jason Akoi and Tobi Babajide the ethos of the label is clear;
...to provide timeless leather goods for the ever changing gentlemen. Living in today’s world requires you to be a part of a herd, be it school, work, or your everyday community. Here at Herds of the Fathers, we want everyone to give birth to their own style and be leaders of their own Herd. We will preach to our customers the importance of fashion consistency and the importance of staying away from fads and trends. We aim to create an everlasting brand that remains a stable for years to come.

Elie Saab SS/11

Elie Saab makes the kind of Haute Couture that makes me glad I'm a girl.
His delicate, detailed and desirable designs all have 'that' factor, which even the most 'hardbodied' dresser would find near impossible to resist.

Uma Chandelier x Giancarlo Tintori

Designer Giancarlo Tintori's contemporary take on the chandelier comes in the form of methacrylate tubes. The light uses fluorescent and clear acrylic cones that create an elegant glow, "offering the same lustre and visual magnificence as its traditional forebears, and an even greater sense of allure and mystique."

Part of a new collection from Nemo Cassina, Uma uses fluorescent light and innumerable transparent acrylic cones to create an imposing form of lighting.

I'm adding to this my already long list things to have in my house ☺

Influencers In-Depth: Steve Stoute

As a great follow-up to their first short film, Influencers gets a little deeper with Steve 'The Commisoner' Stoute, Founder and CEO of Translation, a brand management firm that arranges strategic partnerships between Pop Culture icons (like Jay-Z, Gwen Stefani, and Justin Timberlake) and Fortune 500 companies.

Named one of the Fortune's 40 under 40 list and inducted into the American Advertising Hall of Achievement (2009), Steve Stoute is one of today's most influential forces in entertainment marketing. His client roster includes companies such as Samsung and artists such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

Based on his experience, Stoute gives us some insight into how brands and artists first started to work together and how that relationship has changed over the years. He ends with some great advice on how to find a path to success that can apply to not only artists or brands but anyone who's looking for some advice on their own career.

Inspiring stuff. Fab series.

Gold Coast Trading: Soweto Youth 1976 Collection

Gold Coast Trading recently unveiled its brand new collection S/S 2011
Special untitled Soweto youth 1976.

This pair of leather moccasins, the "Ivory" Inka Boot really caught my attention with its melange of black hand stitched leather, with the gold grommets and the African wax.

JR: Women are Heroes

I was first introduced to the work of street artist, JR back in 2008 and I instantly became a fan. Its also around that time that I heard about his collaborative film project with Médecins Sans Frontières entilted, 'Women are Heroes'.

Using his 28 millimeter lens, JR set out to document the lives of incredibly courageous women from the world. The film recently debuted at Cannes Film Festival and not surprisingly, the work is absolutely breathtaking.

Milk & Honey

Here’s a first-look trailer at a new web series executive produced by London's own, Idris Elba, titled Milk & Honey, created by Brown Paper Dolls (Dana Gills, Asha Kamali May, and Jeanette McDuffie) who started the production company in LA.

The series, which is headlined by Lance Gross, Debbie Allen, Faune Chambers, Bryce Wilson, and Asha Kamali, centers on 4 black women living in Los Angeles, who are on 'spiritual, professional and romantic journeys to make their dreams reality.'
Brown Paper Dolls have been working on the project for over three years, and say that it will be available on all platforms, not just the web (TV, mobile and more).
They describe it as 'a mix between HBO’s Entourage and Sex and the City.'
I'm not sure when exactly the series will debut, but you can follow its progress on Facebook and on Twitter for any and all updates.

It was one year ago today that Haiti was hit with an earthquake that would claim the lives of over 220,000 people and leave 1.5 million homeless. Since then, Haiti has been suffering through a Cholera epidemic and political unrest.

Please keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers.

Vogue Paris: Tom Ford's "Gift"

The most recent issue of French Vogue has been stirring controversy since it hit the newsstands. Tom Ford was the guest editor of the issue and in true Tom Ford style the fashion spread (which featured young children in lipstick and stilettos) was seen as a little too provocative and offensive by readers, while some have expressed their delight over its creativity and styling (side-eye).

Then editor in chief, Carine Roitfeld announced that she was leaving the magazine. LVMH Chief Bernard Arnault reportedly found the spread to be in "poor taste" and threatened to pull all LVMH ads from the issue.

Does it make an artistic statement, or simply make you shudder?

A speakeasy with books: Books & Bars

There is currently a trendy movement occurring in Los Angeles that has seen the collaboration of books and bars. That’s right – drinking establishments that have lined their walls, and shelves, with everything from hardbound classics and modern novellas to law encyclopedias and philosophical tomes.

I'm loving the concept and even though I'm not much of a drinker, I would definately visit a place like this if it was in London.
