It's no secret that I'm a fan of Robert Glasper (and the Experiment).

I've introduced many of my friends to his work and some of his songs have been my soundtrack to loss and heartbreak. So 2 years after his release of "Double Booked" I'm very pleased Mr Glasper is back with a new album entitled "Black Radio", and this time he brought along a few more friends to feature on his record (Yasiin Bey, Bilal, Lalah Hathaway, Stokely Williams and Erykah Badu just to name a few).

In the EPK below we get a glimpse behind the scenes of the album being recorded and a chance to hear Glasper talk about his new project and his contemporary take on jazz.

This reminds me of Tom Ford's controversial fashion spread in French Vogue earlier this year; and just in case you were wondering these children weren't really smoking. But it does bring up the question: Is it ever appropriate to photograph young children in this manner? Even if there is message behind the art?

Carol Morley's critically-acclaimed docudrama Dreams of a Life, which stars Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat, Misfits), is scheduled for an initial limted cinema release on the 16th December.

Nobody noticed when Joyce Vincent died in her bedsit above a shopping mall in North London in 2003. Her body wasn't discovered for three years, surrounded by Christmas presents she had been wrappin, and with the TV still on. Newspaper reports offered few details of her lifee - not even a photograph. Who was she? And how could this happen to someone in our day and age - the so-called ager of communication? For her film Dreams of a Life, filmmaker Carol Morley set out to find out. Joyce may have died in tragic isolation, but Morley was not going to let her be forgotten. She placed adverts in newspapers, on the internet, an on the side of a London taxi. What she finds out is extraordinary. A range of people that once knew Joyce help piece together a portrait of the woman that became so forgotten. "She was very sweet, beautiful looking, a bit of a mystery. We weren't too sure where she came from. It's almost like she was a ghost, even then". Dreams of a Life becomes as much about the people who remember her as it is about Joyce herself.

On December 1st Ron Arad's amazing creation the "Two Nuns bicycle" will go up for bidding at the WOW Bikes charity auction, with proceeds going towards the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

To mark the ten year anniversary of 9/11, London based artist Ben Turnbull created collages featuring ficitonal superheroes we can recognise (look a little closer). They were made to commemorate real life heroes, the firemen and policemen of New York City. I like Turnbull's use of vintage comic books and how the prominent colours used really represent American patriotism.

Electrolux pop up restaurant: "The Cube"

Appliance manufacture Electrolux has created a traveling temporary dining concept - a portable restuarant with "never-before-seen" views - called The Cube. Currently atop the Parc du Cinquantenaire arch in Brussels (its first stop), The Cube is scheduled to pop up on a series of landmark sites across Europe over the course on for 2011.

Says Electrolux, "The aim is to create an experience that surprises and inspires with fantastic tastes, gastronomic hints and tips from some of the world's greatest chefs and never-before-seen views, ultimately stimulating guests to explore their own creative boundaries next time they entertain friends or family at home."

At each venue a hand-picked resident chef will offer tailor-made recipes using locally sourced ingredients for up to 18 guests per setting. Guests will also be given the opportunity to interact and learn from the professionals while in the Cube. "By sharing professional shortcuts we want to show people it doesn't have to be difficult or expensive to create great experiences as long as you have the right tools" says Neil Gannon, Director of Marketing Expertise, Electrolux.

The kitchen will be on display at the center of the Cube and the chef will form an integral part of the event and provide an atmosphere more akin to cooking with friends than attending a traditional restaurant. When dinner is served a concealed dining table will drop from the ceiling to seat the guests before being raised again for after-dinner drinks and mingling.

Two wedge shaped 140 sq. meter Electrolux Cubes will be traveling across Europe. The transparent and semi-transparent laser-cut aluminum structures will be seen on top of monuments, buildings and even water platforms in Belgium, Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden - but for only for three months at each location.

Bob Marley: The Making of a Legend

NAACP Image Award winning Actress, photographer and filmmaker Esther Anderson created the blueprint of this film in 1973 as a kaleidoscope portrait of Bob Marley and the Wailers in Jamaica. shooting intimate scenes with a prototype Sony video camera, Esther carefully constructs the union between Reggae and Rasta that launches the international career of the Wailers. Writing songs with Bob Marley and creating the image for the band, Esther's original vision created a radical change of perception and consciousness both musically and socially around the world. Now, in collaboration with architect and filmmaker Gian Godoy, Esther revisits the making of the legend in modern Jamaica.

Screening will take place on March 19th at the BFI.

Its no secret that Bob Marley is one of my favorite musicians of all time and if a film was ever made about my life, his music would feature heavily on the soundtrack.

JR: Women are Heroes

I was first introduced to the work of street artist, JR back in 2008 and I instantly became a fan. Its also around that time that I heard about his collaborative film project with Médecins Sans Frontières entilted, 'Women are Heroes'.

Using his 28 millimeter lens, JR set out to document the lives of incredibly courageous women from the world. The film recently debuted at Cannes Film Festival and not surprisingly, the work is absolutely breathtaking.

Here’s a first-look trailer at a new web series executive produced by London's own, Idris Elba, titled Milk & Honey, created by Brown Paper Dolls (Dana Gills, Asha Kamali May, and Jeanette McDuffie) who started the production company in LA.

The series, which is headlined by Lance Gross, Debbie Allen, Faune Chambers, Bryce Wilson, and Asha Kamali, centers on 4 black women living in Los Angeles, who are on 'spiritual, professional and romantic journeys to make their dreams reality.'

Brown Paper Dolls have been working on the project for over three years, and say that it will be available on all platforms, not just the web (TV, mobile and more).

They describe it as 'a mix between HBO’s Entourage and Sex and the City.'

I'm not sure when exactly the series will debut, but you can follow its progress on Facebook and on Twitter for any and all updates.

It was one year ago today that Haiti was hit with an earthquake that would claim the lives of over 220,000 people and leave 1.5 million homeless. Since then, Haiti has been suffering through a Cholera epidemic and political unrest.

Vogue Paris: Tom Ford's "Gift"

The most recent issue of French Vogue has been stirring controversy since it hit the newsstands. Tom Ford was the guest editor of the issue and in true Tom Ford style the fashion spread (which featured young children in lipstick and stilettos) was seen as a little too provocative and offensive by readers, while some have expressed their delight over its creativity and styling (side-eye).

Then editor in chief, Carine Roitfeld announced that she was leaving the magazine. LVMH Chief Bernard Arnault reportedly found the spread to be in "poor taste" and threatened to pull all LVMH ads from the issue.

Does it make an artistic statement, or simply make you shudder?

There is currently a trendy movement occurring in Los Angeles that has seen the collaboration of books and bars. That’s right – drinking establishments that have lined their walls, and shelves, with everything from hardbound classics and modern novellas to law encyclopedias and philosophical tomes.

I'm loving the concept and even though I'm not much of a drinker, I would definately visit a place like this if it was in London.

A street art tea party

Earlier this year, Framepool (a stock video library) ran a competition in aid of the Fireflies charity, which recognises relatives and friends' battles with cancer. The film challenge this year was to create a three minute film about courage that had to include at least 20% of archive footage from the Framepool library.

This submission is also a really intriguing commentary on the disturbing rise of knife crime in the UK and was created by the talented Robin Schmit.

Chrissie Morris Fall '10

For this autumnal season, British designer, Chrissie Morris has created a shoe collection where every pair has a name: Aurora, Bianca, Metropolis, Janis, Marlene, Gina and so on. Most of these shoes, if not all, are best described by a certain geometric and architectural perspective.

Take that and then add some singular working materials, python skins, stingray or crystals. This is the story behind every shoe signed Chrissie Morris.

I'm loving the Python Lace-ups Maym Pumps, that feature a 125 mm tapered square shape heel with Sting Ray insert, a round toe , a 15 mm covered platform, and thin black leather laces with tassel ends.

I would'nt mind adding the Suede Stingray Insert Wedge Annie Pumps to my collection either. This pair of shoes has a 140 mm suede wedge heel with imbedded Sting Ray inserts, a 40 mm platform, also a rounded toe, a beige leather innersole and a Sting Ray leather achilles notch.

'Where Children Sleep'

From his latest book 'Where Children Sleep', photographer James Mollison combines portraits of children from all over the world with photographs of the spaces where they sleep at night. The portraits are made on a neutral background, reminiscent of the first article of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights that says, "We're all born equal in dignity and rights".

The photos of their personal spaces give us a glimpse about how those children's rights have been respected (or not).

At first glance this looks like a huge iPhone 4 laying on a plinth but it's actually a 70-inch touchscreen monitor from Hyundai, that can be used as a normal TV/display or, thanks to a swivelling base, laid flat as a table.

I'm pretty sure this just a concept/mock-up but according to Hyundai it will be a genuine product sometime in the future, with multi-touch capabilities and could be used in businesses and for educational purposes.

World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures

The third World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures (December 10th - 31st, in Dakar, Senegal) was announced today by its artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah.

The Festival, previously held in 1966 and 1977, is a celebration of Africa and its diaspora's contributions to universal culture; themed on African Renaissance, it coincides with the year of the first World Cup in Africa and the 50th anniversary of Francophone Africa's independence. Its the largest global gathering of black artists, writers, filmmakers and scientists.

The free Festival will incorporate a multitude of discussions, forums, arts programmes and music events, kicking off with a 60,000 capacity opening ceremony.

Bouncing Cats is a film about Abraham "Abramz" Tekya's dream to help the children of war-torn Uganda, by using the culture of Hip Hop. With this passion Tekya started Breakdance Project Uganda (B.P.U.), a workshop that promotes unity and social change through dance and music.

Narrated by rapper/actor Common, the film features interviews with Hip Hop artists such as Mos Def and K'Naan. It also shows breakdance extraordinaire and founding partner, Crazy Legs, teaching a few b-boy classes.
