Stellar Mirror x Jake Phipps

Inspired by cut diamonds, how could a girl not fall in love?
I don't care how primitive it sounds...its shiny and I want one in my house...now!

Pumzi x Wanuri Kahiu

Pumzi, Kenya's first science fiction film, imagines a dystopian future 35 years after water wars have torn the world apart. East African survivors of the ecological devastation remain locked away in contained communities, but a young woman in possession of a germinating seed struggles against the governing council to bring the plant to Earth’s ruined surface.

I first heard about this short film when it was screened at this year's Sundance Film Festival. I was intrigued by the fact that the film was described as being Africa's first science fiction film and was created by an African woman, Wanuri Kahiu.
In a continent where a female director is almost unheard of, I had to find out more. At the age of 29, she's already hailed as one of Africa's most aspirant directors, being part of a new, vibrant crop of talents representing contemporary African culture.

To create the film's futuristic scenes, Kahiu researched classic 1950s films. Comparing the processes of matte painting and rear-screen projection with indigenous African artwork.

Existence of Light

Que Houxo is a Japanese painter and graphic artist his work combines urban, graffiti-style art with bursts of fluorescent color. He uses fluorescent paints and black lights to illuminate his expressive, multi-hued paintings.
He painted the work below live during an exhibition called “Existence of Light” giving viewers an intimate look into an artist’s process.

The feature is here, and there are more photo's here and here.

Topshop even hired him to paint live in the windows of selected stores using his unique and exciting style to attract shoppers.
"We've had our eye on Japanese artist Que Houxo for some time now. His work is painted live for an audience and is a riot of colour and chaotic brush strokes, beautifully synonymous with Tokyo - the city that features in so much of his work. Frenetic and bursting with colour, his paintings remind us of running about and dancing with wild abandon, and it was with this in mind that we invited him to a few lucky stores to paint - live - in our windows!"

The song, style, photography and rhythm of the whole video flows so well and so smoothly.
I saw it a while ago but was reminded again after a conversation with a friend.
It was shot using a Canon 7D. Excellent cinematography!

My solid foundation

Faith is my solid foundation.

In the middle of a forest, a seed falls from a tree, takes root in the soil and begins to grow. Even in the densest forest, the seed will sprout, become a sapling and stretch its branches toward the light.
Like that seed, my faith grows continually, nourished by the foundation of prayer in my life. I nurture my faith with positive thoughts, words and actions. I reach out to others and welcome the wisdom and understanding of people who have walked the path before me.
Just as a tree shelters those around it, my faith provides me with comfort, reassurance and inspiration. It brings me peace and urges me onward.

I am rooted in faith.

Malbert & Tjernberg's 'Modern Times'

Created by Swedish designers and first time collaborators, Johannes Tjernberg and Rasmus Malbert.
Their 'Modern Times' series was inspired by the Charlie Chaplin film of the same name. The collection consists of three objects: “Ash” - a paraffin lamp, “Instant” - a series of table clocks, and “Pulse” - a docking station, which is the main piece.

Pulse's glossy black structure is partially covered in tiles and the classical crank made of polished brass, was added to it to control the volume. The architectural body of the piece floats on a mirror laminate and hides two speakers and an amplifier on the inside. The entire piece is supported by a single leg which is sculpted with notions of playful music from a street organ.
