Spotlight: 0002

As promised, here is the second instalment of "Spotlight" - a round up of a few artists and new music that i'm currently listening to. If you enjoy the music I've posted please support the artists with the links I have provided below. You can also tune into my weekly radio show and follow me on soundcloud to hear more!
First up is the East London based talent that is Nao (pronounced Nayo), I started paying attention to her after the release of her EP, "So Good" last year. Since then she's been getting support from the likes of Chet Faker and Jacques Greene; she even toured with Little Dragon on the European leg of their tour.
After working with the ridiculously talented, A.K. Paul and more recently, Mura Masa on "Firefly". Nao has just dropped an EP entitled, February 15th and her new single, "Inhale Exhale" is a clear indication that this girl is someone we should all have her on our radar.

A while ago I mentioned on Twitter that Australia and New Zealand were producing a lot of soul and R&B vocalists; Nai Palm, Hollie Smith, Kimbra and Mara TK to name a few. Enter, singer-songwriter and producer, Janine and the Mixtape. The New Zealand native fuses R&B, Electronica and a bit of pop. I'm interested in hearing a bit more of her stuff as she's gearing up for the release of her second EP, which should be dropping soon.

This man needs no introduction, Ahmir Mohamed el Khalifah aka Oddisee has probably worked with all your favourites, Jazzy Jeff, Eric Lau, The Foreign Exchange, Joey Badass and more! The Rapper/Producer just released his new project, "The Good Fight" and you can stream/buy it right now on his Bandcamp page.

Whenever I hear a new voice on a song I always try and find out more about them. That's why I love reading the credits on a track, it's how I've often found out about new artists and producers. I first heard about Eryn Allen Kane, quite recently on the Towkio produced song, "Heaven Only Knows". After a bit of research I found that she was featuring on a number of songs by musicians from Chicago (her hometown) and was creating a bit of buzz out there. Now it looks like she's stepping out on her own as a bonafide artist.
In a time where the production of a song can carry more weight, listening to "Have Mercy" is refreshing and a bold move. This girl can "sang" and I dare you to not be moved by her voice after you've hit play.

Fader described Alessia Cara's new song, "Here" the new anthem for introverts and with the current buzz around the 18 year old they might be right. The Def Jam signee will dropping a EP before the end of the month and I'm looking forward to seeing if she has more "anthems" up her sleeve.

South Londoner MNEK has been a very busy guy! When he's not writing for Madonna, Kylie and Karen Harding - he's producing remixes for Tine Tempah, Duran Duran and Olly Murs! Yet he still finds the time to cover classic pop hits and put his signature spin on them. A few weeks ago he covered "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton and now he's    done his magic again on Cher's "Believe".
