Spotlight: 0001

Spotlight is a new feature i'm adding to this blog. It's a great way for me to showcase artists (of all mediums) on here and give a you a chance to see and listen to talent that I feel deserves more exposure. I'll try and update this on a regular basis and if there are any artists you've heard of please feel free to hit me up on here or Twitter and I'll check them out!
For a while it seemed like the only soulful voices from the UK were from women but with the likes of Kwabs, Jacob Banks and Sam Smith finding success overseas that shift is being made. Now we have BMG Chrysalis new signee, Samm Henshaw to join the mix as well. I first heard Samm's voice as he covered the classic Bill Withers "Aint no Sunshine"and realised he was definitely someone to watch out for.
The 20 year old talent has just released his second single, Redemption which is currently available as a free download (click below) and will be featured on his highly anticipated debut EP, The Sound Experiment (due for release on the 13th July).

Obenewa is a artist that I've been following for a few years now; her debut EP, Therapy, completely blew me away and I've been an avid fan ever since. In recent times it seems the West Londoner has been busy doing back-up duties for Plan B and Rosie Lowe. Now she's back with a new song (and possibly a new EP/Album??) entitled, He.
There's a nice slow groove to this one and is very reminiscent to that classic 90's RnB sound that we all know and love.

You may know Shakka for his successful online series, Shakkapellas or his collaboration with Wretch 32 on the chart topping hit, Blackout or even for his EP's "Welcome to Foolishness Vol. 1", "The Shakka Crown Affair", and most recently "Tribe". This guy may just be one of the hardest working artists in the UK. When he's not producing tracks for artist's such as Nick Brewer, Blizzard or Alexandra Burke, he's on tour providing back vocals for Basement Jaxx.
I'm a huge fan of this guy and his unique talent. If you haven't had a chance to see him perform don't deny yourself a wonderful experience  - he is set to perform at the O2 Academy Islington on the 30th April. Tickets are available here.
As part of his new series #ShakkaMondays he will be dropping new singles every week!

Working with Rudimental, Pomo, Disclosure and Wiley - Sinead Harnett is a voice you've probably already heard but now she's striking it out on her own with "She ain't Me"the first song off her upcoming debut album due later this year. Sinead is often described as a mix between Leona Lewis, Adele and Lauryn Hill - I'm not quite sure about that comparison but what I will say is that this lady is someone to be on the lookout for and I'm really interested how she evolves as a solo artist. Check out her banging new single below.
